David and Janelle Rutt, owners of Pro Collision Center, never thought twenty five years ago that they would be running several successful businesses within the community of Orange.
It all started in March of 1993 when they opened their doors as Pro Auto Body, hoping to draw in customers by handing out business cards and donuts. Starting and growing a business is no small task, especially while raising 3 children. This was accomplished with much hard work, perseverance and likely a few tears.
As the years progressed they changed the business name to Pro Collision Center. Other changes occurred as well. A towing business known as Pro Towing was added and also a used car retail outlet which took on the original name of Pro Auto Body. Eventually a car wash was added and DMV opened in the main building. Commercial rentals have been built around as the Orange Town Center, which include self storage units known as Pro Storage.
When the roof collapsed on the original building December nineteenth of 2009, David showed incredible ability to pick up the pieces and use this potential setback as a reason for reconstructing. The 3 feet of snow didn’t keep him from having the business up and running within a week, albeit in a makeshift way. His employees, the local community and many friends assisted David and Janelle in this expeditious process. A brand new building was built in the following year and a half. Pizza Hut and Anytime Fitness are now in the reconstructed building that once housed the auto body repair business.
From the beginning, a lifetime warranty on all repairs has been David’s promise. He has maintained this reputation to all of his customers of a job well done. Through it all he has endeavored to be fair with his employees, many times involving himself in their personal lives if he felt he could help in some way. His genuine care and desire to be more than fair has kept some employees working there for twenty years! His ability to work with people, along with his desire to give back to the community, have led him to hire employees through a work release program from the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
David and Janelle’s children were very young in the early days of Pro Auto Body and now as adults, all three have become a vital part of the business. Roger, the oldest, is an excellent auto body technician as well as backs David up on the front end; writing estimates and assisting customers. Eric has been painting the vehicles for ten years and does incredible work. Shauna participates in the administrative side of the business.
This past week the company enjoyed a celebration dinner in honor of the twenty five successful years in business. The Silk Mill was proud to host Pro Collision Center in this well deserved anniversary. Twenty five years is truly something to be proud of! David and Janelle give all the credit and glory to God as He made this business into what it is today.
